We did a comprehensive search of what was available in the UK and EU but nothing fitted our requirements without going to a much heavier, much more expensive German brand which would have meant also upgrading the towcar.
The key thing was we wanted to have wider fixed twin beds and, as we both suffer from bad backs and were deeply fed up with the foam mattresses in our previous caravan, we wanted to have mattresses of a quality similar or better than our domestic ones.
It was not possible to widen the beds in our Xplore 574 because of the position of the washroom door.
The newer model Affinity 574 has a mid wash room and it was within our budget limitations, so the only limitation was the width of the drawer cabinet between the beds.
I have reasonable DIY skills so took the plunge in repositioning the bed frames and reducing the width of the cabinet.
The crucial factor was finding the right mattresses, so our very first step was to visit Jonic whilst on a trip up to the Lake District.
We contacted Charlotte before we went as we would have the caravan on and were concerned about parking on the industrial estate when we got there.
Our fears were unfounded, we parked easily while we were there and Charlotte made a fuss of our little dog whilst we spent ages trying out the range of mattresses on display.
It quickly became apparent that what we needed was the 2000 spring count mattress with built in memory foam topper.
We felt that, bearing in mind they are made to measure, the cost is very reasonable and delivery was shorter than we expected.
They were delivered to our home in East Anglia by courier about 3 weeks after we ordered them.
As expected, they fit absolutely perfectly in the modified caravan (as indeed do the custom made sheets and protectors).
We are absolutely delighted with the end result.
Dealing with Charlotte and Ben was a delight.
It’s so nice to be able to say this in this day and age.
We are now seriously considering replacing our domestic mattresses with some from Jonic as the cost and quality is just as good as the big names and you can tailor sizes and construction to exactly what you want.
